Mishelle traveled to South Carolina from Florida after her son, Joshua Goodman, was arrested for attempted murder after a fight with two neighbors on April 9, 2017. She had been staying at his home while he was in jail, and planned on attending his bond hearing in late May.
She was supposed to drive back to Miami on May 8, 2017, but never made it back to Florida.
Mishelle stopped answering phone calls, which her family says is highly uncharacteristic of her, as she always kept in close contact with her teenage daughter.
Investigation
On May 28, 2017, Mishelle’s vehicle, a Ford Five Hundred with Florida license tag 4099GA, was found at an apartment building on Sharon Pointe Road in Charlotte, North Carolina. She has no known connections to that area.
In 2018, Mishelle’s son was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty but mentally ill for attempted murder in the beating of his neighbor. Goodman, an Iraq war veteran and former Charlotte-Mecklenberg deputy, was on medication for post traumatic stress disorder and depression at the time of the incident, court documents show.
Prosecutors say he was under the influence of marijuana on the day of the incident, and that he had demolished his own home before beating his neighbor without provocation. The neighbor’s husband intervened, at which time they fought until police arrived.
Investigators have not indicated any connection between Mishelle’s disappearance and her son’s arrest.
